The police fired a warning shot on Monday during an arrest of a 25-year-old man in Roosendaal. The police suspected that the man had a weapon. A police diving team found a firearm in a stream on De Genestetlaan later in the day, the police announced on Tuesday.

Surveillance officers saw the man standing on a lawn on the Watermolenberg around half past five on Monday morning. When the man saw the officers, he immediately ran away. The officers followed the man and saw that he had what appeared to be a firearm in his hand.

The man ran into a park, after which an officer fired a warning shot. The man was then arrested.

The 25-year-old man did not have a weapon with him at the time. A police dog searched the area for a weapon without results. Later in the day, a police diving team found a firearm in a stream on De Genestetlaan

The police are investigating further.
