A 22-year-old man from Lemmer has been sentenced to four years in prison for a brutal rape in Nieuw-Weerdinge, in which he put a gun to the woman’s head. The sentence is equal to the demand of the Public Prosecution Service (OM).
The rape happened on the morning of May 11. The man visited a prostitute. The woman temporarily stayed in a friend’s home. The man denied the rape during the court hearing two weeks ago. According to him, it was a ‘business transaction’. The man denied threatening her with a weapon.
The officers reached the man through telephone records. There was a weapon in his home containing cell material from the complainant. The judge finds the woman’s story more credible. In addition to rape, the man was also convicted of illegal possession of weapons. A serious matter, according to the judge.
In addition to pointing a gun at the woman, he also grabbed her by the throat. The woman was in agony and had to undergo sexual acts that she did not want. According to the judge, the way in which the rape happened was “extremely frightening and drastic”. The man only had eyes for his own feelings of lust and venting his frustrations.
The victim was awarded damages of 10,000 euros. In addition, the man also faced a suspended prison sentence of two weeks, which he must add to the sentence.
