The test setup will run for a maximum of six months. The city will then investigate whether the adapted traffic circulation will be maintained, need to be adjusted or disappear again.
The temporary measure also fits within the broader plans for the center of Waregem. Major renovation works on Markt and Stormestraat are planned from 2028. 4 million euros has been allocated for that project. In addition, the city is allocating 90,000 euros this year to draw up a new mobility plan.
