The ball starts rolling for the first time in Alkmaar on Wednesday, January 14 from 9 p.m. at AZ-Ajax. The eighth final between AZ and Ajax is the eye-catcher of this round in the KNVB Cup.
Last season’s edition (also in the eighth finals) is still fresh in our memories. The Alkmaarders then won 2-0 at home. The matches in 2021 (eighth finals) and 2022 (semi-finals) were a prey for Ajax.
Telstar-Almere City
The round of 16 has already started for Telstar, as they will play against Almere City that same day from 8 p.m. Only once before have both teams met in the cup tournament. That was on August 21, 2001 and the home team narrowly defeated Telstar: 2-1. For comparison: current coach Anthony Correia only made his debut a month after that cup match.
