Shocking moment for Eintracht Braunschweig: Top performer Christian Conteh has to leave the field injured against Schalke 04. The club is now giving an initial diagnosis.
When Christian Conteh played in the second division game on Sunday Eintracht Braunschweig When he fell to the ground against FC Schalke 04 (2-1) and was holding his knee with his face contorted in pain, the alarm bells were already ringing in the Lion City. On Monday afternoon, the BTSV gave the “slight all-clear”.
Conteh injured the inner ligament of his right knee during Eintracht’s home win at the end of the year against the leaders of the 2nd Bundesliga, according to an Instagram post from the club. However, it is possible to start preparing for the second half of the season.
“The final decision as to whether Chris can be back immediately will be made after a check-up at the beginning of January,” the club continued. “Get well soon, Chris!”
Conteh grabbed his right knee after a duel with Schalke professional Mertcan Ayhan in the 72nd minute of the game and was escorted off the pitch by support staff after a short treatment break. Even without their fixed point in attack, Eintracht achieved a surprising victory against the Revierklub, which means they are now in 13th place in the table – three points above the relegation zone.
The winter vacation began for the BTSV on Monday and is scheduled until January 4, 2026. Here the professionals train according to an individual training plan. Coach Heiner Backhaus’s team will then play a test match. The opponent for this has not yet been determined. The second half of the season starts on Friday, January 16th with a home game against 1. FC Magdeburg.
A longer absence from Conteh would have hit Eintracht hard. Together with Mehmet Aydin, the fast winger is the top scorer of the BTSV season so far. Conteh scored five goals and prepared three more goals during the season. The data portal “transfermarkt.de” estimates its market value at 800,000 euros. The 26-year-old’s contract expires next summer.
