On Monday, Finland selected its cross-country team for the traditional Tour de Ski. Seven women and eight men will compete

Finland is represented on women’s trips Jasmi Joensuu, Jasmin Kähärä, Johanna Matintalo, Kerttu Niskanen, Vilma Nissinen, Krista Pärmäkoski and Vilma Ryytty.

Men’s Tour skiers Niko Anttola, Cross mat Hakola, Perttu Hyvärinen, Petteri Koivisto, Niilo Moilanen, Joni Mäki, Iivo Niskanen and Lauri Vuorinen.

Koivisto can be considered the surprise name of the team. He has skied eight World Cup competitions in his career. Each of the starts has taken place in their home country, where Finland, as the organizing country, has been able to register a larger number of skiers than usual.

Koivisto is not part of the national skiing team either. The skier better known from the domestic slopes was 45th in the traditional 10 and 61st in the 20 kilometer free race at the Ruka World Cup this season.

The result has become the second highest level in the Scandinavian Cup, where Koivisto was twice in the top ten on a normal distance just over a week ago.

The men of the A national team will not be seen at the Tour Remi Lindholm, Arsi Ruuska and Ville Aho. Ruuskanen already told Viaplay at the World Cup in Davos that he might want to skip the Tour.

Emil Liekari was first announced to the team, but his name was crossed off the list just a moment later.

– Emil Liekari will leave the Tour de Ski team. Liekari has been sick and has not yet fully recovered to ski the Tour de Ski. Liekar has a personal place for the tour based on the sprint cup situation, so no one will place him, the Ski Federation announced.

The A national team women do not ski on the Tour Katri Lylynperä, Hilla Niemelä and Amanda Saari.

The Tour de Ski starts in Toblach, Italy on December 28 and culminates in Val di Fiemme on January 4.

For mountain week

At the turn of the year, the legendary Central European hill week is also contested, where Finland sends a four-man team. They are jumping Antti Aalto, Niko Kytösaho, Vilho Palosaari and Eetu Nousiainen.

The mountain week starts in Oberstdorf, Germany on December 28 and culminates in Bischofshofen, Austria on January 6.

The Women’s Ski Jumping World Cup continues in Germany with the Two Nights Tour. The tour will be contested in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Oberstdorf on New Year’s Eve and Day. Representing Finland Heta Hirvonen, Minja Korhonen, Julia Kykkänen and Jenny Rautionaho.

Story updated at 1:34 p.m.: The Ski Federation announced that Liekari will be out of the Tour.
