On its 50th anniversary, the album reached number one in the German charts for the first time and at the same time secured the coveted Christmas number one in the UK.

To mark the 50th anniversary, a lavishly expanded anniversary edition of Pink Floyd’s 1975 album WISH YOU WERE HERE has been released. It includes a new Dolby Atmos mix, demos and live tracks as well as a hardcover book.

First place in Germany

In Germany, this is the first time the classic has made it to the top of the official album charts, which are based on sales and streaming data from around 2,600 shops and platforms. Originally released on October 15, 1975, the record entered the German charts at number 25 and reached its best position at number six the following month. For Pink Floyd it is already the ninth number one record in this country, just a few months after the chart success of the 2025 reissue of PINK FLOYD LIVE AT POMPEII – MCMLXXII.

Christmas number one in the UK

At the same time, WISH YOU WERE HERE made chart history in the UK, where the band reached the Christmas number one album position for the first time.

“I toast to the wonderful news that WISH YOU WERE HERE is the number 1 Christmas album in the UK,” Gilmour wrote on Instagram on Friday.

Beatles record broken

This brings the band full circle, and they can also look forward to a record: WISH YOU WERE HERE topped the British LP charts for the first time in 1975. This means that the longest time has ever passed between two number one positions for an album in the UK – exactly 2,620 weeks. Pink Floyd thus overtook another legendary band, The Beatles, and their ABBEY ROAD, who previously held the record with 49 years and 252 days between their number one positions. The album was at the top for the first time in 1969, and again in 2019 as part of a re-release.

At number two in the British Christmas LP charts is Olivia Dean’s THE ART OF LOVING, followed by Taylor Swift’s long-running hit THE LIFE OF A SHOWGIRL. This is followed by Michael Bublé’s themed album CHRISTMAS, Sabrina Carpenter’s MAN’S BEST FRIEND closes the top 5.
