Bundesliga bottom club Blau-Weiß Linz presented its new coach on Sunday evening: Michael Köllner will coach the Upper Austrians in the future. The 55-year-old will receive a contract in the steel city that runs until the end of the season, which will be extended until 2027 if he stays in the league. Köllner most recently worked in his hometown for third division club Ingolstadt until May 2024. He once looked after 1. FC Nürnberg in the German upper house.

In Linz, the Bavarian follows the Slovenian Mitja Mörec, who was released in November. In the last two games, the Linzers were then looked after by assistant Andreas Gahleitner. The Blue and Whites, who were part of the championship group last year, are currently four points short of reaching safety.

“I am very pleased that we can present Michael Köllner as our new head coach. It was clear to us from the start what profile we were looking for and what we needed in our current situation. This makes it all the more important that Michael not only has a lot of experience, but above all also has content expertise and great conviction in order to get back on track as quickly as possible,” said sports director Christoph Schösswendter.
