Thiaw makes a mistake

Nick Woltemade’s first brace in the English Premier League was not enough for Newcastle United to win. In the duel between the Champions League participants, the Magpies, despite a 2-0 lead, did not get beyond a 2-2 (2-0) draw against Chelsea FC. The 23-year-old Woltemade scored goals six and seven in his 14th league game. Last week, the former Stuttgart player decided the derby against arch-rivals FC Sunderland (0-1) with an own goal.
Woltemade took advantage of their first chance in the early stages. The striker was there after a save from Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez (4th minute). The furiously playing hosts were clearly superior to the club world champions and extended their lead: Woltemade directed a pass from Anthony Gordon into the Chelsea goal (20th). Shortly before the break, the Bremen native missed a hat trick when he pushed the ball just past another Gordon pass (45th). With seven goals in 14 games, the national player is tied for third place in the top scorers list before the afternoon games.
The guests, who were disappointing in the first half, found their way into the game immediately after the break: Reece James shortened the score with a perfectly taken free kick (49′). Then Germany’s national player Malick Thiaw made a mistake: the defender slipped in a duel against João Pedro, the Brazilian ran alone towards the Newcastle goal and equalized to 2-2 (66th). Newcastle is still stuck in midfield, Chelsea remains fourth (to the table).
Update 6 p.m: Thanks to Erling Haaland, Manchester City is the new leader ahead of Arsenal FC after their fifth league win in a row. The superstar from Norway scored his goals of the season 18 and 19 (5th/69th) in the 3-0 (2-0) win over relegation candidate West Ham United and prepared the interim 2-0 through Tijjani Reijnders (38th).
