Manchester City power in the Premier League Pressure on FC arsenal. On matchday 17, City celebrated a confident 3-0 win (2-0) against Kellerkind West Ham United and remains two points behind leaders Arsenal (1-0 at Everton FC).
Erling Haaland scored 1-0 for the “Skyblues” and made it 2-0 to Tijjani Reijnders in the 38th minute. In the 69th minute, Haaland made it 3-0 with his second goal.
For City it was not only their fifth league win in a row, but also their seventh competitive win in a row. City’s last defeat was 2-0 against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League at the end of November. West Ham, on the other hand, has been waiting for a win for six games and is three points behind the saving bank in the first relegation zone in the table.
Haaland scores and lays up
There was never any doubt as to who would win this game. City dominated the game right from the start and took the lead after five minutes. Phil Foden fed Haaland in the middle from the left side, who was initially denied by goalkeeper Alphonse Aréola, but then sank the rebound.
West Ham had little to report in the first half and only had two ball actions in the opponent’s penalty area. City played their game calmly and confidently and made it 2-0 in the 38th minute. The “Citizens“through the”Hammers“-Penalty area, Haaland passed to Reijnders and he slammed the ball under the crossbar from five meters.
West Ham has the chance, City scores the goal
In the first quarter of an hour after the break, the guests showed themselves to be more courageous and also had a great chance to score the next goal: After a pass from Lucas Paquetá from his own half, Jarrod Bowen came into a shooting position from the half-right side, but narrowly missed the far corner (56th).
From the 60th minute onwards, City took over again and finally put the lid on it in the 69th minute. The ball came flat into the penalty area on the right side. Two “Hammers” defenders failed to clear the ball. Haaland thanked him and scored his second goal of the day.
Donnarumma asked twice more
The game was decided. But West Ham didn’t want to surrender to their fate without a fight. Crysencio Summerville scored from a few meters in the 75th minute, but was denied by City keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. Three minutes later, the Italian fished a direct free kick from Paquetá out of the air (78th).
Donnarumma’s counterpart Areola was also challenged twice more, once against a long-range shot from Foden (82′) and two minutes later against a low shot from Savinho (84′). In stoppage time, Haaland still had the chance to score a hat-trick, but he aimed just wide of the goal to the right. In the end it was a deserved 3-0 win for the “Skyblues”.
