The big live events don’t stop: players like Federico Castiglioni know something about it who, after second place in the second stage of the ISOP main event, immediately flew to Cannes for a new stage of the PokerStars Open. The guaranteed million has been exceeded and there are a few Italians still in the running

Prague, Campione and Cannes. This is the “journey” that the cards took before everyone sat down at the table to celebrate Christmas, before gifts and food in abundance. Live tournament workaholics gathered in France for the main event of the PokerStars Open in Cannes

GUARANTEED BREAKDOWN

The usual division of day 1 has already been archived. The most populated one was certainly day 1C last Thursday with over 500 entries. Finally, the Cannes leg of the PokerStars Open registered 1,202 players to the Main Event. The guaranteed prize money was one million euros but it has reached well beyond that figure. There is a first coin of over €190,000 up for grabs and the eternal struggle between Italy and France is more heated than ever. Manuel Ferrari and Gabriele Lepore have arrived respectively third and fourth in the High Roller finished on Wednesday. Saturday is big game hunting day because the number of players remaining in the main tournament will be reduced but at the same time there will be day 1 of the Mystery Bounty, a formula that always attracts quite a few people. Sunday last titles up for grabs, celebration of the winner of the Main Event and freedmen all towards Christmas trees, family and participants but for now the cards are still in play

MAIN EVENT POKERSTARS CANNES OPEN: THE SITUATION

We talked about the Italy-France challenge because the two nations are the ones with the most representatives at the gaming table. Scrolling through the day 1 and day 2 rankings, both sides can legitimately aspire to the big shot. Among those who passed the first “cut” is Federico Castiglioni, runner up a few days ago in Campione. Federico wasted no time immediately flying to Cannes and putting his name in the noble part of the ranking. On day 1A the best Italian was Eugenio Latorre who closed the first round in 4th place with 245k. Among the 26 artists who bagged 1B at the end of the day we find Vasyl Palandiuk second with 162k. Gianfranco Ironico was the blue player with the largest stack to reach the second day of battle. In the “very popular” day 1C, Ironico earned 286k while in the fourth “flight” the first Italian in the ranking has less than 100k. On day 2 he further skimmed down to 65 surnames in the running. 175 went to ITM and with less than 70 players in play, each one already has almost €3000 in their pocket. The first two in the ranking are French but in third place we find Roberto Manfredi with 1.1 million pieces of plastic. Roberto is in the company of 10 other compatriots who are fighting and jostling. There’s a great Christmas up for grabs!
