Last week, Spotify published the most listened artists on its service. In Finland, only male artists could fit into the top ten. The most listened to artist was Turisti and the list also included Ares, Averagekidluke, Isac Elliot and Sexmane.
Iltalehti asked the opinion of Finland’s top artists about the fact that all the most listened to were men at the announcement of Emma Gaala’s candidates.
– Of course, it’s a shame. There are a lot of great artists and creators in Finland who are not men. It’s perhaps a bit sad that they’re not represented there, the Emma & Matilda duo Emma Johansson line.

One of the most listened to artists this year is the rapper Ares ie Aris Stabouli. His song Success is the best way to get revenge was the most listened to song of the year on Spotify.
Stabouli says that he recently discussed the male winning top ten with the artist Pehmoaino aka Aino Morko. The rapper sees a clear reason in the male victory of the ten most listened to artists.
– Many female artists did not release albums this year, of course it affects, Ares states.
For example, Mirella and Pehmoaino’s successful albums came out in the middle of last year. Among them, the top ten most listened to artists in 2024 was Mirella.

In addition to Ares, the rapper Averagekidluke aka Lucas Kihlman also shines on the list. Kihlman sees a connection between Spotify and Tiktok consumers. The user base of both has a lot of young people.
– Rap is now a big genre and there are a lot of men who make rap. Rap is such that it is really visible. That there are these and these clothes and it’s really big, says Kihlman.
According to Kihlman, this works on Tiktok and thus on Spotify lists. Kihlman believes that the gender distribution is more even in radio.
– We have to start promoting women more so that they go into the Spotify algorithm and the gang listens there. We have really good people in Finland. I believe that when Mirella, Pehmoaino and Ella Herold drop their records, they chill there, Kihlman inches.
