The gun emplacement was part of Stützpunkt Goltz, a German infantry fortification within the Atlantic Wall. That support point consisted of about eighty structures. Most remains of Stützpunkt Bruchmüller, to which this setup belonged, disappeared under the sand or were demolished after the war. The large fire control bunker a little further away is protected as a monument.
The discovery occurred during work by LIFE DUNIAS, a project in collaboration with the Nature and Forest Agency and the Maritime Services and Coast Agency, which focuses on nature restoration in the coastal dunes. The find has now also been turned into one 3D model created from drone images.
