Yann Bisseck wants to recommend himself for the national team after his thigh injury at Inter Milan. The defender relies on playing time and a bit of luck.

Defender Yann Bisseck still has his sights set on taking part in the World Cup next year. “I hope that I’m still on the national coach’s radar – even if it was difficult for me at the beginning of the season,” said the 25-year-old in a Sport1 interview: “I’m trying to recommend myself to the club. But in the end there’s also a bit of luck involved. I’ll definitely do my best.”

The former Cologne player was recently used regularly at Inter Milan. Bisseck played his only game so far for national coach Julian Nagelsmann’s national team in March of this year in a 3-3 draw against Italy in the Nations League. At the end of May he suffered a thigh injury in the one-sided Champions League final against Paris St. Germain (0:5) and then had to fight his way back.

After the painful setback in the big game, Nagelsmann also contacted Bisseck. “I thought that was very good and respectful of him,” said Bisseck: “Before the squad was nominated in September, we spoke on the phone and he told me that playing time was important to him. The conversation was also good.” Since then, “there hasn’t been much contact, but I don’t expect that.” If he shows his performance again, the contact will definitely be there again.
