Preußen Münster has extended Malik Batmaz’s expiring contract early after his second cruciate ligament tear. The striker joined the then third division promoted team from Karlsruher SC in the summer of 2023 and contributed to the team’s passage into the lower house with 17 goals in 38 games. At the start of the 2024/25 season, Batmaz tore his cruciate ligament and only returned to the pitch last March. At the end of October, fate befell him again.
“I have always experienced Malik as an absolute team player who always put the collective first and thus made a positive contribution. But especially in the recent past, he had to overcome a lot of personal resistance – which he succeeded in an impressive way. Now, due to the second cruciate ligament tear, he is in an extraordinary situation in which we don’t want to leave him alone,” said sports director Ole Kittner.
Batmaz, who contributed 19 goals and four assists in 60 appearances for Prussia, added: “I’m pleased that I was able to extend another year. That’s not a given and I’m very grateful to now have a certain level of security. I’ve always experienced great appreciation here, the club and the city in which we founded our little family have grown very close to my heart.”
