Leaders Ingolstadt won the top game of the DEL. 13 goals were scored in the duel with champions Eisbären Berlin.
The Polar Bears Berlin lost the high-scoring top game of the German Ice Hockey League against ERC Ingolstadt. After an early 2-0 lead, the German champions ultimately lost 5:8 (2:3, 2:2, 1:3) to the league leaders.
Yannick Veilleux scored two goals, Markus Vikingstad, Frederik Tiffels and Liam Kirk also scored for the capital.
The Berliners conceded four goals when they were outnumbered
In front of 4,346 spectators in Ingolstadt’s Saturn Arena, the guests got off to a lightning start: Vikingstad scored after 68 seconds, Tiffels extended the lead (4th). Afterwards, the Berliners were thrown off course by time penalties. The home side took advantage of their first two power-play opportunities and equalized with goals from Kenny Agostino (7th) and Peter Abbandonato (9th). Shortly afterwards, Austen Keating even gave Upper Bavaria the lead (10th).
In the second third, Veilleux equalized (29′). Alex Breton responded with Ingolstadt’s third power play goal (30th), before the Eisbären also took advantage of a power play situation: Veilleux scored for the second time (35th). Breton again scored to make it 5-4 for the hosts (39th).
In the final period, Kirk equalized for the Berliners (47th), but Riley Barber (49th), Riley Sheen again in the power play (50th) and Keating again (60th) decided the game in the hosts’ favor.
