The World Darts event is traditionally colorful but not bloody.

An exception was seen on Monday, when the opening round match Cameron MenziesCharlie Manby ended with a surprising eruption.

As Manby took his seventh match point and aired his victory, a frustrated Menzies began pounding the round table next to the throw-in area with a pair of underhooks.

As a result of the series of blows, Menzies got a wound on the knuckle of his right hand that was bleeding profusely.

A statement of regret

Menzies apologized for his behavior later on Monday.

– I apologize for reacting that way, he commented in his statement according to the BBC.

– It’s not an explanation, but I’ve had a lot of things on my mind lately. I think it was all just too much in the end.

Menzies mentioned his uncle died under the World Cup. In addition, his father is hospitalized.

– I repeat that there are no explanations for my behavior on stage. I did the wrong thing and I don’t want to take anything away from Charlie. He played well.

Menzies, 36, led the match 2–1, but World Cup debutant Manby, 20, pushed to level and 3–2 to a surprise victory.

The World Darts tournament continues until the third day of January. As usual, London’s Alexandra Palace is the stage.

Five million pounds in prize money will be distributed in the tournament. The champion’s share of the pot is £1 million.

Ranked number one is Luke Littlerworld champion from last winter.
