Norway won the World Cup final against Germany. But in the middle of the celebrations, not everything went according to plan on Norwegian TV.
At the final of the Handball World Cup in Rotterdam, it wasn’t just the players from Norway and Germany who had to struggle – presenter Gunnhild Toldnes also had to deal with difficulties on Sunday. The voice of the Norwegian presenter on TV 3 repeatedly failed during the live broadcast.
After the end of the game, the situation escalated when star goalkeeper Katrine Lunde came to Toldnes for an interview. According to her own statement, the presenter had the “worst coughing fit ever. I had to run out of the studio,” she told the newspaper “Dagbladet.”
But the TV viewers only saw Toldnes suddenly leave the studio. They only found out the reasons later. Her colleague Ole Erevik stepped in and conducted the interview. Shortly afterwards she was back again.
“During the whole show I stood to the side and got water from our make-up artist. It wasn’t exactly ideal, but luckily we have Ole in the studio, who is a journalist, and he handled it well. Even though I wasn’t fully at work, the catastrophe was averted,” she said with a laugh.
