The Concertgebouw was evacuated on Saturday afternoon after several visitors became nauseous due to a ‘unknown substance’ at the building. The main entrance was hosed down by firefighters in special suits. A witness informed AT5 that the liquid had been thrown inside, but the police could not confirm this. It was announced on Sunday that the smell was caused by butyric acid.
Yesterday, 22 were killed during the protest demonstrators arrested. A police spokesperson said that no one has been arrested for the graffiti and that an investigation is underway. Cleaners are busy removing the graffiti.
‘No excuse’
At the demonstration on Museumplein, which attracted hundreds of demonstrators, there were several confrontations between the police and attendees. By 10 p.m. all demonstrators had left.
“Once again, a cultural stage in Amsterdam, the artists and visitors are being intimidated. The Concertgebouw has been suffering from insults and threats for months,” Halsema wrote on social media this morning after the series of incidents. “There is never an excuse to intimidate others.”
