Flemish MP Andy Pieters (N-VA) uses the figures to urge the Flemish government to take action. “Exposure to this silent killer must stop as quickly as possible,” says Pieters. “It is good that OVAM immediately started working on that analysis, but now the next steps must also be taken.”
In March, the Flemish Parliament approved a wall-to-wall resolution calling for strengthening and accelerating the asbestos reduction policy. It was requested not only to evaluate the policy, but also to consider whether additional measures are necessary, such as possible removal obligations or the designation of priority buildings and regions.
