After just 166 days and 18 games, Sergio Francisco’s tenure at Real Sociedad is already over. The San Sebastián club released the 46-year-old, who succeeded Imanol Alguacil in the summer after six and a half years, after the 2-1 defeat against FC Girona on Friday evening.
Francisco, who previously coached Real Sociedad’s second team, only scored an average of 1.22 points in 18 games and the Basques are in 15th place in LaLiga. The cushion on the relegation zone is only one point (to the table).
Under their predecessor Alguacil, the Basques were never worse than twelfth. In the next two games in the Copa del Rey against third division team CD Eldense and in LaLiga against bottom team UD Levante, reserve coach Ion Ansotegi will look after the team.
