Of course, when you’re so close and have such a great final against a team that’s been almost unbeatable in recent years, it hurts a little bit because who knows when you’ll be so close to a World Cup title again. Just gold. But if you think about it again for a moment, what we’ve done in the last few weeks, the last nine games have shown such great handball, even now in the final Norway really thought about it and really stood up to it until the last second. It was little things that decided the game and we can be so proud that it was the first World Cup medal in 32 years. I had like that.
A lot of emotions after the game, I don’t even know it was. I was annoyed for a moment and then of course I was incredibly happy. I’m proud of the team and have now realized that it’s a bit difficult, but it’s quite good. First of all, I think we booked a restaurant, went out for something to eat and then had some time with family and friends to celebrate what we had achieved. I think we can all celebrate very, very well. Nobody will back down today. It’s definitely going to be a long night and I think we deserve it.
The German players’ heads only hung for a moment. When the medals were awarded, Emily Vogel raised her fist to the hundreds of German fans in Rotterdam’s Ahoy Arena. And rightly so. The German team played an outstanding final against strong Norwegians. The Norwegians also confirmed this to us after the game in the mixed zone. And the spectators, even if they were neutral in the arena, honored the great performance in the final by shouting Germany, calling Germany. And now the German team deserves to properly celebrate this silver medal win.
