“I thought that was severely punished,” coach Rick Kruys is critical of the red card for Amevor. “I just watched the moment again. What I see is that the Groningen player brings him down and Amevor takes him with him in his fall. The VAR did not intervene, so I probably saw it wrong.”
FC Groningen received a penalty in the final phase of the match due to a handball by Nick Verschuren. Referee Danny Makkelie was called aside by the VAR and Kruys spoke to him briefly.
“I understand that this is technically a penalty, but I have difficulty with it myself. Defenders in particular are declared outlaws; the ball is shot at a player from close range and it is a handball. I think that is nonsense, actually.”
