An oliebol with or without currants: very tasty. But did you know that there are also special flavors for sale in Zoetermeer? At almost every stall you can taste a scoop of caramel sea salt or Oreo, so we now zoom in on really funky flavors.

Reading about some variants makes your mouth water, while others make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up… There is no accounting for taste.

Tasting in Zoetermeer

Which special oliebollen do you encounter in Zoetermeer? This is, for example, the matcha ball and the cappuccino ball. If you like to visit the snack bar, then the frikandel special (yes, really) is probably something for you. The oliebollen stall in Meerzicht only bakes this special oliebol on Wednesday, December 17 and from Friday, January 2 to Wednesday, January 7.

Special bulbs in other cities

We asked our local colleagues in other cities in the Netherlands about the special flavors available in their city. After all, many oliebol bakers experiment with new and (sometimes a bit too) crazy ideas. Food tour, anyone?!

The fatter the better: for a bamibol or pandan bun you go to Schiedam. In The Hague you can buy an ADO ball with yellow-green chocolate and in Arnhem a variant with the taste of a Split ice cream.

A chili cheese ball You can order in Hengelo, Middelburg and Veenendaal and a Fristibol in Eindhoven. In Tilburg you can taste the Ibiza bun with white chocolate, almond shavings, white hazelnut and künefeslierten. The ginger bulb in Dordrecht turned out to be a bit too strange: there was no demand for it and the bulb is now out of the range.

We have done our best to take a look in the display case of all oliebollen stalls in Zoetermeer. We may have overlooked oliebollen after all. It may therefore happen that in our city you will also encounter the special flavors mentioned in other cities.
