Thanks to a brace from Christian Conteh, Eintracht Braunschweig has gained important breathing room in the relegation battle of the 2nd Bundesliga. In a spectacular game, coach Heiner Backhaus’ team at Dynamo Dresden impressed, especially in the first half, winning 3:2 (2:0) and jumping to 13th place in the table.
With his third and fourth goals of the season, Conteh set the course for an away win early in the game (7th/21st), but initially desolate Dresdeners hit back within two minutes through Jakob Lemmer (54th) and Nils Fröling (56th). However, Braunschweig didn’t give up and rewarded itself for a courageous performance in the person of Patrick Nkoa (78th).
“The two halves shouldn’t be that different” complained Dresden coach Thomas Stamm after the game. “Based on the first half, you can’t take any points here.“His Braunschweig counterpart Heiner Backhaus struggled with the”sloppy exploitation of opportunities” his team. “Dhe game should have been decided in the first half.”
While Braunschweig moved ahead of Dynamo with four points in a direct relegation zone, the Saxons have to cope with a bitter setback after a shallow upward trend of two wins from the last three games. However, with seven failures – including top scorer Christoph Daferner (concussion) – the hosts went into the game badly shaken and found no means at all against Lower Saxony, who were on a high note.
Stefan Kutschke carelessly misused the ball in his own penalty area, Leon Bell Bell passed it to Conteh, who lobbed over Dynamo goalkeeper Tim Schreiber. The Saxons continued to look out of control, Braunschweig pushed for 2-0: Max Marie missed a challenging volley from seven meters (12th), and Conteh scored a brace.
Nkoa destroys Dynamo’s hopes
After the restart, the tide turned out of the blue. Kutschke extended a long ball to Lemmer, who shot the ball into the goal in the follow-up shot. Just two minutes later, Lemmer himself set up: His low cross landed at Froling, who also brought the ball over the line in his second attempt. “If you concede the equalizer here, there are many teams that will then lose the game” said Backhaus. “But we managed to come back again.“
Because when the game threatened to tip over completely, Nkoa ensured the final point and the important three points for Eintracht.
