N-VA wants an adjustment to the Tournai Accords, so that the Belgian and French police can work together better. “The French government has plans to adjust those agreements somewhat, but actually to their advantage,” says Kurt Himpe. “This makes it easier for the police to pursue on Belgian territory, but not the other way around, and that is of course not the intention.”

Minister of the Interior Bernard Quintin wants to invest in cameras with license plate recognition in and around major cities and at the border. Where exactly is not yet clear.

“Crime must be tackled, also here in West Flanders,” says MP Maaike De Vreese. “So if there are resources in that fund for border crime for additional ANPR cameras, they should also end up here. The border is of course long, but they should not forget West Flanders. That is the signal we want to give here.”
