Lionel Messi is one of the most popular footballers in the world. Fans in India are now giving him a very special honor.
“A tribute to his greatness”: Indian fans have erected a 21-meter-high monument to Argentine football star Lionel Messi. The monumental metal statue, to be unveiled on Saturday, towers high above the chaotic traffic in Kolkata in the east of the country.
Alongside the statue, a replica of Messi’s home in Miami – fully equipped with dolls depicting his family members – was also erected at a ‘Hola Messi’ fan zone in Kolkata. The monument unveiling is part of a three-day tour by the 38-year-old Argentine through four Indian cities, during which he is scheduled to meet, among others, Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan.
