Lenny Kravitz is in his Bond era. The musician will appear in the upcoming video game “007: First Light” will portray a villain named Bawma, as was announced at last night’s Game Awards.

A new Bond for a new generation

Kravitz, who was on hand for the casting announcement, described the character as “the Western Hemisphere’s largest black market dealer, who is as charismatic as he is unpredictable.” He added: “He came from nothing. Freed himself. And built his own kingdom of Aleph.”

“007: First Light” will feature Patrick Gibson from “Dexter: Original Sin” as a younger version of James Bond. The game is scheduled to be released in 2026. It is described as a third-person action-adventure with a strong story that reimagines the origin story of a 26-year-old Bond.

The first trailer shows Kravitz’s villain leading Aleph and threatening Bond with death.

Kravitz on his role in the Bond universe

“The Bond franchise has an incredibly strong legacy in video games, so it’s great to join it with an all-new character like Bawma,” Kravitz said in a statement. “He is magnetic and unpredictable, there is danger in him, but also heart and determination.”

He added: “He’s not just a man of power, but someone who had to fight for every inch. Bringing that energy into 007’s world felt incredible.”

More cast and platforms

Other cast members include Gemma Chan, Priyanga Burford, Kiera Lester, Alastair Mackenzie, Lennie James and Noemie Nakai. An exact release date has not yet been set.

The game is expected for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 as well as for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Kravitz’s acting career

Although Kravitz is primarily a musician, he has several acting credits. He became known, among other things, for his role as Cinna, Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen’s stylist, in the “Hunger Games” films.

He was last seen in a supporting role in the black comedy “The Trainer” in 2024, in which he played himself. In September, Kravitz also appeared on stage with Dua Lipa at Madison Square Garden and performed “It Ain’t Over ‘Til It’s Over.”
