So far, the German biathletes have not been able to conquer a single podium place. That should change in Hochfilzen on Friday.

Philipp Horn did it: The German biathlete pulled off a surprise at the sprint in Hochfilzen. The 31-year-old came third after a flawless shooting and was only beaten by the Italian Tommaso Giacomel and the Frenchman Eric Perrot, who were a few seconds faster.

Horn left the overall World Cup leader from Norway, Johan-Olav Botn, behind him. Botn was 3.1 seconds behind the German, for whom it was the first individual podium finish in the World Cup in his career.

Philipp Nawrath, on the other hand, missed out on a place in the top ten. The best German biathlete made a mistake on his last shot, which cost him important seconds. Justus Strelow, Danilo Riethmüller, Simon Kaiser and David Zobel didn’t play a big role.
