The unrest started after a screening of a documentary in the cinema in Noord. A number of police officers were also present there as a precaution.
The officers then moved to the Flora field because young people were lighting a fire there. According to Het Parool, fires have been lit in several places. The police then stood opposite the group for a long time and had fireworks thrown at them several times.
A police spokesperson said around 10 p.m. that the police were in Floradorp ‘to restore peace’. No charges had been carried out at that time. Someone was arrested, but the police spokesperson could not say why exactly.
A large fire is normally lit on the Floraveld during New Year’s Eve, but from this year onwards the municipality no longer permits this. There has been a lot of unrest in the neighborhood in recent months, even after the municipality installed camera surveillance.
