Ski jumper Karl Geiger

Karl Geiger, a top performer for many years, will be missing from the home World Cup in Klingenthal next weekend.

This decision was made by the German national ski jumping coach Stefan Horngacher on Tuesday. “Karl will use the days to optimize his jumping technique together with trainer Max Mechler”said Horngacher.

Geiger has had a difficult winter so far and has only scored World Cup points in two competitions this season. In Wisla, Poland, he had no chance at all and failed to qualify twice, finishing 56th and 54th. It remained unclear when Geiger could return to the World Cup.

In Klingenthal he will be replaced by Luca Roth, as the German Ski Association announced.

Wellinger is allowed to go to Klingenthal

Things are similarly modest for Andreas Wellinger. The 2018 Olympic champion had an outlier with seventh place in Ruka, Finland, but also recently jumped behind in Wisla. Unlike Geiger, the 30-year-old is there in Klingenthal.

Andreas Wellinger “has completed training sessions in Ramsau with trainer Andreas Mitter over the last few days”said Horngacher. The head coach added that he was also looking forward to the ski jump in Klingenthal.

Hopes lie with Raimund and Hoffmann

The DSV Adler want to fight for medals again in front of their home crowd. Stefan Horngacher looks positively on the home World Cup: “With Philipp Raimund and Felix Hoffmann, we have two active members in the team who are currently in very good shape. But Pius Paschke is also showing a positive trend, and the large hill in Klingenthal in particular should suit his flying abilities.”

Klingenthal is followed by Engelberg, and after the Christmas break the tour starts in Oberstdorf on December 29th.
