Doug Shedden, who left Sport’s position as head coach, wonders about the club’s sporting director Ari-Pekka Pajuluoma’s statement about him.

Pajuluoma told Iltalehti that, in addition to poor athletic success, Shedden had “something personal” that made him leave Vaasa.

– I have no idea what he’s talking about, the coach snaps.

Shedden himself justifies his decision with Sport’s outlook for the rest of the season.

– The rules of the league changed so that no one is relegated this season. So this was an easy decision to make because I wasn’t coming back next fall anyway.

– Sport saves money and they get to give a chance to a young coach (Jussi Tapio).

No goodbyes

The Canadian coach does not have a new job in sight. He is now packing his bags and going home to Florida.

Farewell to the players was limited to a couple of phone calls.

– I was going to morning training today, but the club agreed that it was not a good idea. They want the focus to be on Jussi and tomorrow’s match. It works for me.

Shedden will no longer receive a salary from Sport during the rest of the season, because he left the club on his own initiative.

He thanks the club management for his time in Vaasa and emphasizes that he was treated well.

– I don’t hold any kind of grudge, Shedden insists.

In Kaukalo, Sport’s bottom hole narrowed down to the pain of scoring.

– It’s hard to win if you only score one goal in a game.

– There were a lot of young people in the lineup, but I tried to do a good job. I think the team played with great energy and I am not disappointed with them. They played as well as they could, but it wasn’t enough.
