Just a few years ago, Karl Geiger was the driving force of German ski jumping. The 32-year-old is currently struggling with his performance.

Around two weeks before the start of the Four Hills Tournament, national coach Stefan Horngacher is without Karl Geiger. The five-time world champion will be replaced by Luca Roth at the home World Cup in Klingenthal.

“Karl will use the days to optimize his jumping technique together with trainer Max Mechler,” said Horngacher. Geiger recently missed qualifying twice in Wisla. So far this season, the 32-year-old has only collected World Cup points in two competitions. It is unclear when he will return.

Andreas Wellinger has also been struggling with his form recently. In Ruka he achieved his best result so far in seventh place, but in Wisla he fell well short of expectations. Nevertheless, the 30-year-old is at the start in Klingenthal.

“Andreas Wellinger, who is not as far away as the results suggest, has completed training sessions in Ramsau with trainer Andreas Mitter over the last few days,” said Horngacher. Wellinger is looking forward to the ski jump in Klingenthal.

After Klingenthal, the DSV team continues to Engelberg before the Four Hills Tournament begins on December 29th in Oberstdorf.
