There are signs of a major change at Red Bull: Dr. Helmut Marko, long-time motorsport advisor to the Formula 1 team and confidant of Max Verstappen, will probably leave the team at the end of the year.
Formula 1 top star Max Verstappen, who was dethroned as world champion, apparently loses an important confidant. In his attempt to regain Lando Norris’ world title next year, the Red Bull driver will reportedly have to do without long-time motorsport consultant Helmut Marko. This is what the British newspaper reports “telegraph” and “Sky Sports” coincide.
Worked at Red Bull for 20 years
The 82-year-old Austrian will therefore leave the team at the end of the year. Immediately after the Formula 1 finale in Abu Dhabi, Marko left his future at Red Bull open. “Let’s see”Marko had simply answered a corresponding question on “Sky”. Verstappen had always said that he would like the Austrian to stay.
Marko has been working at Red Bull for 20 years and is considered an important supporter of the Dutchman. Around the turn of the year, Marko was involved in a power struggle at the racing team with then team boss Christian Horner after the Brit was accused of inappropriate behavior by an employee.
Verstappen’s father Jos in particular had clearly positioned himself against Horner, who ultimately had to leave a few months later in the midst of a sporting crisis in the team. At this stage it was also said that Verstappen’s stay at Red Bull was contractually linked to Marko.
