“It was a shame”
Liverpool legend attacks superstar Salah

After public criticism of the coach, Liverpool star Mohamed Salah was left out of the squad. A club icon also finds clear words.
Club legend Jamie Carragher has strongly attacked Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah after his public criticism of coach Arne Slot. The former TV expert accused the Egyptian of deliberately taking action against the club.
“What he did after the game was a disgrace,” Carragher said on British broadcaster Sky. For him it wasn’t a spontaneous emotional outburst: “Some people portrayed it as an emotional outburst. I don’t think it was. I think that if Mo Salah stops in the mixed zone, which he did four times in eight years at Liverpool, then it was agreed upon with him and his agent in order to cause maximum damage.”
Salah was again not in the starting line-up in the 3-3 draw against Leeds United and was not substituted on. It was the third time in a row that the attacker did not start. After the game, he publicly – and clearly – expressed his dissatisfaction with his situation. He is therefore not in the squad for the Champions League game against Inter Milan (from 9 p.m. in the t-online live ticker). In his statements, Salah already spoke of the fact that criticism from Carragher would now follow again.
Carragher, who has spent his entire career at the club, expressed incomprehension at the timing of Salah’s criticism: “The Liverpool fans, the coach, everyone involved with the club feel devastated at the moment. And he has chosen this exact moment to attack the coach and perhaps try to get him fired.”
The TV expert also defended Slot’s decision to no longer use Salah: “Why should you substitute him when you are leading in these games? You don’t need a goal. You just don’t need to concede any goals,” said the 47-year-old. “When you substitute Salah, you bring in a player who can’t defend from set pieces and doesn’t run back.”
