“The Valencia Marathon is flat and fast,” says Filmon Tesfu, looking back on the race in the Spanish city. After Amsterdam and Rotterdam, he completed his third marathon this weekend. “I wasn’t surprised because I knew if the conditions were right I could run this time.”

Tesfu: “After my previous marathon (ed. Rotterdam, April 2025) I was the fifth fastest Dutchman ever. The conditions were not so good then. A lot of wind and I ran a large part alone. Everything was better in Valencia.”

Excellent pacer

Besides the fact that the course is very flat, the Valencia marathon is also known as a race where many hares are present. The pacers ensure a stable pace and keep other runners out of the wind. Tesfu ran in a group of thirty athletes, running at a time between 2:06 and 2:07.
