Corné H. is the man suspected of taking three employees hostage in the prison in Vught last Friday. He is now in isolation there. His lawyer, Petra Breukink, said this. According to her, he also received a disciplinary punishment.
Breukink says that people with TBS should actually be in a therapeutic environment, she calls it a ‘therapeutic climate’. “So not in a normal prison,” she emphasizes. According to her, there is a large group of TBS offenders in custody, these are people who have been convicted and received TBS, but have to wait for it in prison, who really need treatment quickly. “If such a situation becomes hopeless, it can cause problems.”
A year ago, Corné H. received nine months in prison and TBS for a long hostage situation in a café in Ede. A psychologist and psychiatrist then stated that this action was mainly a cry for help. His lawyer previously confirmed that he is still in prison in Vught pending his TBS treatment.
More and more convicts have to wait for a place in a TBS clinic, the Ministry of Justice and Security announced last week. The ministry wants to expand with two hundred additional TBS places between now and 2030. This should improve the flow from prisons to TBS clinics.
The Public Prosecution Service reports that Corné H. will not be brought to trial because he is already in custody. Camera images and conversations with people in prison are being used to investigate what exactly happened last Friday, a spokesperson said.
Based on the final report, the public prosecutor will make a decision about the prosecution of Corné H. “It should not be the case that prisoners can do everything because they are already in custody,” says the spokesperson.
