Ski racer Fabian Gratz bitterly missed his next top result in the Olympic winter.

At the giant slalom in Beaver Creek/USA, the 28-year-old was eliminated early in the second run after an inside ski error. In the first run, Gratz impressed with seventh place and raised high hopes for the best World Cup result of his career.

Gratz recently achieved his previous top result of 13th place in nearby Copper Mountain, meaning he also achieved half the standard for the 2026 Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo (February 6th to 22nd). Now Gratz (Altenau) missed the chance to tick it off completely.

Overall World Cup winner Marco Odermatt won in Colorado, the dominator from Switzerland prevailed ahead of Alex Vinatzer (Italy) and Henrik Kristoffersen (Norway). Odermatt, who celebrated his 49th World Cup victory, was 0.23 seconds ahead of Vinatzer and 0.34 seconds ahead of Kristoffersen.

Alpine skiing: Alexander Schmid disqualified

Alexander Schmid (fishing) experienced a bitter disappointment. The 31-year-old initially reached the second round in 22nd place, but was subsequently disqualified – according to media reports, because the binding plate was too high.

Anton Grammel (Kressbronn) only came 37th in the first run and failed, Jonas Stockinger (Herzogsreut/40th) fared no better.

Slalom specialist Linus Straßer (Munich) was eliminated after a few goals.
