AND Senator for life Liliana Segre was greeted by applause from the audience as she entered the central stage of La Scala, which this year opens the opera season with A lady Macbeth in the Mcensk district directed by Riccardo Chailly, in his twelfth and last December 7th as musical director of the theatre. The maestro, applauded upon his entrance, conducted the Mameli Hymn with the entire audience standing up and also timidly singing.
In the central box to the right of Segre sits the president of the Constitutional Court Giovanni Amoroso and to his left the mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala. Behind them the governor of the Lombardy Region Attilio Fontana, the vice president of the Senate Gian Marco Centinaio, the vice president of the Chamber Anna Ascani, the Minister of Culture Alessandro Giuli and the US Undersecretary of State Sara Rogers.
