Both Femmy (34) and Jawies Baker (34) have been coming to the snack bar in the De Leyens shopping center for fries since childhood. When the couple saw that the business was for sale, they didn’t hesitate for a moment and decided to open a new snack bar. “This meeting place for the neighborhood must continue to exist.”

Femmy and Jawies have known each other since they were 12 and both grew up with fries, soft ice cream and other snacks from the snack bar in De Leyens. “With my parents, we often used to pick up food at the weekend,” says Femmy.
Chat with the neighbors
The entrepreneurial couple wanted to continue this tradition, for themselves and for the people in the neighborhood. “We run the business together with our sons Jawies Junior and Juwain and my father-in-law. My father-in-law makes roti rolls every week, that is his specialty,” says Femmy.
In addition, her father-in-law likes to chat with customers. “We also want to be a meeting place for older people in the neighborhood. After the disappearance of the bakery, pet shop and flower shop, the elderly in particular miss a cozy place in the neighborhood.” That is why Isa Snacks also has tea, coffee, brownies and sausage rolls on the menu.

According to Femmy, the previous snack bar, Ivo Snacks, had not announced its closure. That’s why most people didn’t know that the nearby snack bar was closed. After the takeover, Femmy and Jawies started a two-month renovation. “During the renovation, people were regularly pulling on the closed door,” says Femmy. Since its opening on Monday, December 1, many people have found the snack bar. “Everyone is welcome.”
