It all started in a deserted parking lot with a beginner’s kart. But the then seven-year-old Demy Beuving from Peize soon knew that she wanted to make racing her sport. “I think the speed on the straights is really cool!” says the karting talent proudly.

Supported by father, mother and older sister, Demy and her entire family drove throughout the Netherlands and Germany last year for the NXT GP championship. The only ten-year-old rider from Peize ended the season in the Honda Cadet class as vice champion. She also took first place in the Ladies Cup and came third in the Super Cup. Demy: “This is my best season so far.”

She started racing at the age of seven. At first at home with friends in the garden, but soon she wanted to make racing her sport. She is now in classes with peers between the ages of 7-12 years old. These children drive at speeds of over 90 km/h. And when asked whether that is exciting, the karting talent responds very briefly and confidently: “No!”

Karting demands a lot from the Beuving family because the karting tracks are not always around the corner, especially not for training. “We’re making it a weekend away,” says father Harrold. “We often leave on Thursday so that Demy can train for the races on Friday. Because during a race weekend she has to be on the track three times.” But he is happy to do that. “She could also have done ballet or another sport. Fun is the most important thing. As long as Demy is having a good time, it’s fine.”

And Demy’s big dream? “Later I would like to drive Formula 1 or Stockcar.”
