2Hyundai i20 N Line Carbon: how it is made, the design

Technically and aesthetically based on the i20 N Line, this little Hyundai adds even more spice where there was already a lot of spice, creating an aesthetic package thanks to which going unnoticed is almost impossible. Yes, because the 17″ wheels, the sports bumpers, the sports exhaust terminal (with a really good sound) and the dedicated interiors are joined by all those similar details. carbon fiber which enrich the car, giving it greater character. We are talking not only about the obvious stripe in the center of the bonnet, but also about details on the rear-view mirror caps, in the area of the front and rear bumpers, on the side skirts and even above the roof, with the fin near the rear window. No options: as standard there is already everything you need and can be mounted on an N Line.

3Hyundai i20 N Line Carbon: how it is made, the internal details

The interior of the Hyundai i20 N Line Carbon is enhanced by sports seatsrather containing, in fabric and with a red weave, with red contrasting details and stitching for the steering wheelalso with a sporty cut, and further details in the same shade, such as on the gear knob. Of course, having Android Auto and Apple Car Play usable only via cable remains a limitation, sometimes even a positive one, if we think about the risk of smartphones overheating with induction charging, but if you don’t have a cable in your car, well… you don’t have access to Apple Car Play or Android Auto, simple as that.

4Hyundai i20 N Line Carbon: how it is made, interiors and space

The driving setting of the i20 N Line Carbon reflects in every way that of the car from which it derives: a driving setting designed for those who enjoy driving a car and not simply be transported from point A to point B. The steering wheel controls are very intuitive, just as the presence of physical buttons scattered around the dashboard is excellent news. In short, internally and beyond, the i20 is a truly successful car, with an infotainment system that may no longer be very recent, but functional, practical, simple, direct. And behind? Four of us can fit, but don’t ask her to work overtime with five of us. The luggage compartment, then, is from 262 litresnot a lot but well distributed and extendable up to 1075 by folding down the second row of seats.

5Hyundai i20 N Line Carbon: how it is made, the technique

As anticipated, we tested the Hyundai i20 N Line Carbon with 7-speed automatic transmissionwhich can only be combined with the 1.0 three-cylinder turbo petrol T-Gdi engine 100 HP of maximum power and 200 Nm of torque with a 48 V 10 HP mild hybrid system. In this configuration the car sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 12.1 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 182 km/h, against declared consumption of 19.8 km/l (15 km/l recorded). With a weight of 1,115 kgpart of the credit on both the consumption and performance side is due to this figure, which cannot be taken for granted nowadays for a car 4.08 meters long, 1.78 meters wide and 1.46 meters high.

6Hyundai i20 N Line Carbon: how it goes in the city

Practical and agile to use in the city thanks to a convincing turning radius, the i20 N Line Carbon does not disappoint those who have to park in difficult situations. In this regard, it’s a shame that front parking sensors aren’t even optional on the N Line trim level, as they are only available with the Prime trim level. The package is however rich with rear camera (with very respectable visual resolution) and rear sensors, available starting from the entry level.

7Hyundai i20 N Line Carbon: how it goes extra-urban

The 1.0 three-cylinder turbo is the most sensible proposal on this i20 N Line Carbon: vigorouspresent at low and medium revs in a surprising way in terms of promptness and reactivity. A pleasant engine to listen to (why do we have any in the B segment with a 1.0 three-cylinder with a sound like its!) and to exploit. An engine that, in short, makes you want to drive. With the DCT 7, driving comfort is enhanced in city traffic, but with the knowledge of always having the steering wheel paddles available for greater driving involvement, perhaps also inserting the Sport mode, which as the name suggests gives it even more punch when the curves arrive. Only one sin: the counter-physical logic of the gear lever, with downshifting and engagement reversed. Road holding and driving pleasure are excellent.

8Hyundai i20 N Line Carbon: pros and cons

Below are the strengths and weaknesses found during the test of the Hyundai i20 N Line Carbon.

  • Driveability: one of the best B-segment curves. Precise, direct, light-hearted, sincere and funny
  • Engine: what a character! Quick, lively, energetic, full of torque at low and medium revs. It’s fun and not a little
  • Exclusivity: if you buy a Carbon, you automatically don’t go unnoticed
  • Price: although in line with the competition, until a couple of years ago you could directly buy the i20 N, a true sports car, for 27,190 euros
  • Some details: absence of front parking sensors (available only with the Prime trim level), single-zone climate control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto which can only be used via a special cable.
