On Saturday against Messi

Thomas Müller made a humorous appearance before the MLS Cup final and, as usual, mischievously emphasized the enormous importance of the game.

When asked where the final stood for him in comparison to other important games, the 36-year-old said in a great mood: “It’s currently number one. At the moment the final is the most important thing in my life.”

Müller’s Vancouver Whitecaps will face Inter Miami and their superstar Lionel Messi on Sunday (8:30 p.m. CET/Apple TV). Eleven years after the World Cup title in Brazil, Müller and Messi will meet again in another final. “Of course the media looks a lot at Messi and Müller, but it’s about two teams with a very attractive playing style. It’s a perfect final. I’m very grateful that I can be part of it,” said the former Bayern professional.

Müller jokes: “OK, but there are still chances”

The game takes place in Florida, Miami has a home game. When Müller was asked that the away team traditionally had worse chances, he wanted to know exactly. “What are our chances? 10 percent? 20? Less?” asked Müller, before adding calmly: “Okay, but there are still chances. I’m glad to hear that.”

Miami is the representative of the Eastern Conference in the final of the MLS Cup after a 5-1 win against New York City FC and is the host because of its better main round record compared to Vancouver. The game will be played at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. It is the first time that both teams have taken part in the final. “This is the greatest success in the club’s history for the Whitecaps. And we should enjoy it too,” Müller said immediately after reaching the final.
