The street circuit of the Brazilian megalopolis is preparing to host the first round of the new Formula E season. The characteristics of the track and where to follow tests, qualifying and the race live

This edition also promises to be a particularly intense and hard-fought battle for the title. The man to beat is obviously the reigning champion, the Englishman Oliver Rowlandready to defend the crown with his trusted one Nissanbut waiting for him at the gate is fierce competition led by the contingent Porsche (which, in addition to announcing its withdrawal from the FIA ​​World Endurance Championship, confirmed that in the 13th season of Formula E it will take to the track with two official teams), last year capable of securing the Constructors’ and Teams’ titles. As for the rest of the grid, Maserati And McLaren they will no longer be in the game while there is great curiosity about the debut of the new official Citroën team. The 2026 edition ofAbb Fia Formula E World Championship (this is its full official name) will therefore see a total of 20 pilots divided between 10 teams (Andretti Formula E, Citroën Racing, Cupra Kiro, DS Penske, Envision Racing, Jaguar Tcs Racing, Lola Yamaha Abt Formula E team, Mahindra Racing, Nissan Formula E and Porsche Formula E team). The world championship calendar foresees instead 17 races divided over 11 weekends and this year too, unfortunately (after Rome and Misano), no stops are planned in Italy (even if the organizers still intend to return as early as next season).

Last waltz for the Gen3 evo cars

This will also be the second and last season with the Gen3 Evo single-seaters, the first with all-wheel drive (even if not permanent), introduced in 2025 as a direct evolution of the previous Gen3s and already ready to pass the baton to the brand new Gen4s for the 2027 season. Gen3 Evo currently represent the maximum technological expression of Formula E, with a power of around 350 kW in race mode (around 475 HP) which rises to over 400 kW (544 HP) in time attacks and with a 600 kW (approximately 815 HP) regenerative braking system capable of generating almost 50% of the energy needed to cover the distance. This translates into acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just over 1.8″ and a top speed of around 320 km/h with a minimum weight of 859kg including the pilot.

E-Prix San Paolo: the circuit

The first round will take place on São Paulo Street Circuitcity route approximately long 2.9 km not to be confused with the Interlagos racetrack. Characterized by 11 curves in total, six on the right and five on the left, it alternates long, wide avenues and violent braking to maximize the spectacular potential of Formula E. Among its peculiarities is the proximity to the famous Sambódromo Anhembibeating heart of the Paulista carnival, and the fact of having hosted competitions of the IndyCar American between 2010 and 2013, albeit with a layout different from that used for racing cars zero emissions. The Sao Paulo E-Prix has taken place on three occasions so far and the New Zealander has triumphed on two of these Mitch Evans on Jaguar (in 2023 and December 2024 starting from the last place on the grid) with a statement from the Briton in between Sam Bird on McLaren (in March 2024).

As for the television coverage of the new season in Italy, Mediaset will once again broadcast all the races free-to-air, on channel 20, while to watch the qualifying sessions live you will need to contact the Sportmediaset website or Eurosport, which will also broadcast the race for its subscribers as will Discovery+. As regards the free practice sessions, they will be broadcast in full on the official Formula E YouTube channel and Facebook page. Since the one in Sao Paulo is a round singlethe bulk of the action will as usual be concentrated on the day of Saturday 6 December 2025.
