About a year ago, former St. Pauli striker Guido Burgstaller was brutally attacked in Vienna. Now the punishment for the attacker has been determined.
Guido Burgstaller receives 55,800 euros in compensation after a brutal attack. Austrian media reported on Tuesday about the agreement between the ex-Bundesliga striker and his attacker.
The Vienna Regional Court for Civil Law Matters mediated the conditional settlement between both parties. Burgstaller originally demanded 73,606 euros. The agreement can be revoked until December 10th.
If the settlement is accepted, the perpetrator will pay 50,000 euros to the 36-year-old within two weeks. Another 5,800 euros will follow later. The attacker received 16 months of conditional imprisonment in March and had to pay 4,200 euros in compensation. The incident happened about a year ago in downtown Vienna.
Burgstaller told “Sport Bild” in May that he was very lucky that his skull was fractured. This saved him. “The brain swells significantly after such an impact and requires more space,” he explained, “this was due to the crack in the skull. Otherwise the doctors would have had to drill open my head to reduce the pressure.”
The Austrian played in Germany for Nuremberg, Schalke 04 and St. Pauli. After his comeback for Rapid Vienna in the Europa League in April, the 26-time international ended his career in the summer. Burgstaller now works as a striker coach for the Austrian U19s.
