Produced by 50 Cent: The explosive Netflix series shows previously unpublished material and statements from those allegedly affected. What’s really behind Sean “Diddy” Combs’ empire.

Sean “Diddy” Combs is currently serving his 50-month sentence at Fort Dix Prison in New Jersey. A documentary that has now been released traces the rise and fall of the music mogul in detail.

“Sean Combs: The Reckoning”: A reckoning?

The four-part documentary series “Sean Combs: The Reckoning” deals intensively with the rapper’s life. Among other things, it tells of the beginnings of a young music producer in New York and how Sean “Diddy” Combs became one of the most influential people in the music industry. However, the Netflix documentary, produced by long-time colleague and rival 50 Cent, also sheds light on Combs’ dark chapters.

The 56-year-old has been accused in the past of, among other things, sexual abuse, human trafficking and involvement in prostitution. These accusations ended in a trial in 2025 that went viral around the world. The verdict was reached in October 2025: four years and two months in prison for coercing ex-girlfriend Casandra “Cassie” Ventura and another plaintiff into prostitution. The New Yorker was only found guilty on two of five charges.

That was important to 50 Cent during production

The producer of the documentary is Curtis James Jackson III, 50 Cent’s real name. The 50-year-old emphasized in interviews to promote the series that he wanted to use the documentary to retell the truthful story of the rapper – from the perspective of those who were very close to it: The narrative is supported by dozens of interviews with companions, colleagues and employees. The Netflix series also includes previously unpublished material about the singer. According to the company’s own statements, the aim of the production was to make the experiences of those allegedly affected visible and to show which factors contributed to being able to build an empire as powerful as that of Sean “Diddy” Combs.

Combs already responded to the documentary

Combs said through one of his spokespeople that some of the footage had been obtained illegally. In a teaser released on Monday, December 1st, the singer can be seen sitting on a leather chair and having a conversation with his lawyer via smartphone. Diddy then accused Netflix of publishing “private moments, footage from an unfinished pre-indictment project, and discussions about legal strategy” without consent.
