England face Ghana in a friendly. At times, the focus is not on the game, but on a TV reporter – but not for positive reasons.
The TV broadcast of a game by the England women’s national team was briefly interrupted – for a serious reason: presenter Laura Woods collapsed during the live broadcast.
Woods first spoke to experts Ian Wright and Anita Asante about the game against Ghana on the British channel ITV4 on Tuesday evening. As Wright was about to respond, Woods suddenly fell forward. She collapsed in the arms of Wright and Asante. The former top striker (287 career goals) reacted quickly and helped Woods stay on his feet.
The station’s TV management also reacted immediately and switched to a commercial break that lasted about five minutes. A little later, presenter Katie Shanahan took over the leadership of the show.
“As you have probably noticed, the wonderful Laura Woods is not here today as she has become ill,” Shanahan said. But Woods is “in very good hands, so I’ll step in for her at short notice.” It is not yet known how the 38-year-old Woods is doing now.
The “Three Lionesses” won the game 2-0 with goals from Lucia Kendall (6th) and Alessia Russo (90th + 5/penalty). The English women’s national team is the reigning European champion.
