Ruby Franke, a Mormon mother from the United States, gained considerable popularity on her YouTube channel 8 Passengers, where she recorded her life with her husband and the couple’s six children.
It was later revealed that Ruby Franke had systematically abused her children and abandoned them. The case is covered in a documentary series Ruby & Jodi: Influencers of Evilthe first episode of which can be seen today on Frii.
The alarm bells of many viewers started ringing in 2020, when a video showed in passing that Ruby had taken away her teenage son’s bed as punishment. The boy told the camera that he slept for seven months in a bean bag while Ruby held back her smile next to him.
Ruby also recorded the moments of discipline herself. He shared videos on YouTube where he made his child do push-ups as punishment or threatened to cut off the head of his little child’s favorite toy. If one of the children did not obey their mother’s orders, the child could go without food.
Once, Ruby’s kindergarten-aged child had forgotten to pack a lunch with him for care. The child did not eat for the entire day of treatment, as Ruby considered this a natural consequence of the child’s mistake.
Viewers were shocked by the humiliating content, accused Ruby of abuse and made numerous child protection reports.

Ruby Franke stopped her YouTube channel and started working with Therapist Jodi Hildebrandt with giving instructions for child rearing and mental health.
The cruel truth was revealed in 2023. Ruby’s 12-year-old son had escaped from the window to ask for help from a neighbor. The boy was malnourished and covered in wounds, with tapes around his wrists. During the house search, the police found the family’s 10-year-old daughter, who was also malnourished. Ruby had been babysitting at Jodi Hildebrant’s house. The children were rushed to the hospital and a total of four youngest children in the family were taken into custody.
Ruby Franke was sentenced to prison for abusing her children. Hildebrandt was also sentenced.
