Nico Schlotterbeck is being courted by the German record champions and other clubs. Dortmund coach Kovač now comments on the future of his defender – and it becomes clear.
Nico Schlotterbeck’s decision about his future at Borussia Dortmund is getting closer – and could also depend on the performance in the upcoming games against Bayer Leverkusen. His coach Niko Kovač is confident about a possible contract extension.
“He’s doing really well. He knows what we have in him, but he also knows what he has in the club. I’m positive,” said Kovač. When asked how big his influence was on a possible extension, he explained: “I don’t know to what extent I can influence it. Except that I give him the appreciation. And I give him that every day.”
On Saturday evening (from 6.30 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online) BVB will meet Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, followed by the DFB Cup round of 16 against the same opponent in Dortmund on Tuesday evening (from 9 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online).
At BVB they are eagerly awaiting Schlotterbeck’s decision. His contract runs until 2027, but according to consistent reports, the national player initially wants to wait for the sporting developments. It will also play a role whether the Black and Yellows will be able to win titles in the coming years. According to media reports, both FC Bayern Munich and other top European clubs are showing interest in the defender.
