In Lillehammer, Felix Hoffmann took a podium place. Just a few days later, Philipp Raimund celebrated the same success – including a new record.
Ski jumper Philipp Raimund flew onto the podium with a hill record in Falun, Sweden. In record hunter Stefan Kraft’s (Austria) 46th World Cup victory, the 25-year-old celebrated the second-best result of his career in third place. In the only competition of the season on a normal hill, Andreas Wellinger also showed a significant improvement in 19th place, which was the first points for the two-time Olympic champion.
Raimund flew to 94.5 and 99.5 meters on the 2027 World Championships hill, and in the second round he improved Severin Freund’s hill record set at the 2015 World Championships by two and a half meters. Felix Hoffmann, a strong third in Norway two days earlier, impressed again in eighth place and collected points, as did Pius Paschke (18th). Karl Geiger, on the other hand, came away empty-handed in 48th place.
Meanwhile, veteran Kraft celebrated the 46th World Cup victory of his career ahead of Anze Lanisek (Slovenia). In the “eternal” best list, he now shares second place with the Finn Matti Nykänen, who died in 2019, and only the Austrian Gregor Schlierenzauer (53) is ahead of the duo. With 15,811 World Cup points, Kraft also broke the career record of Finn Janne Ahonen (15,758).
Kraft will now take a short break from competition – he and his partner Marisa are expecting their first child in a few days.
For the first time in eleven years a World Cup took place in Sweden, and points had not been fought on the small Bakken in Falun since 1996. Curious: For the first time in the history of the World Cup, no jumper from the host country took part in a competition. In Sweden, which once produced greats like Jan Boklöv and Tore Edman, ski jumping has been in decline for years.
There will be another competition on Wednesday (from 3:10 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online), but then on the large hill.
